OUR ETHICAL IMPERATIVES

COGNITION AND EMOTION

Understanding the perceptual, emotional and intellectual dimensions of other species and their ability to experience empathy, joy, fear and loss. Fostering an appreciation of the intrinsic nature of each individual animal, and challenging the notion that animals need to be like us to be intelligent and therefore valued.

COMPASSION AND PROTECTION

Acknowledging the suffering of other animals at our hands and what actions can be taken to right the wrongs and cease cruel practices.

CONSERVATION

Contemplating the effects of our alienation from nature and the basic ecological processes that insure life for all animals, including ourselves. Exploring innovative approaches and benefits of protecting other species.

COMPANIONSHIP

Recognizing the multiple roles animals play in our lives and their ability to move us beyond the limitations of our humanness to understand our place in a larger, more than human community.
